Salaried man
This has to be one of the best shot's I've taken in a long while. I'd developed it a few months ago and had left it jammed in my Annie Leibovitz book to flatten out (you gotta maximize the value from those expensive books). I'd finally managed to get a few new rolls developed over the weekend and discovered several sleeves in the book I'd forgotten about. This shot popped right off the neg. It seems to have a timeless quality to it I'd like to explore more of.
High noon
Not much to say here really. Maybe different to my usual efforts which is why this might have finally made the cut.
The Chair series
Took the same train to work for two years and started to notice the different thing's people did while seated in a chair that seemed to be quite out of the way of any trains. What I like about the collect is the randomly different thing's most people are doing at any one time. The series has only been edited to keep the basic format the same (seems I shot more using 35mm than asselblad 120).
Team Mask
Most people in this 13 millions person city do thing's in groups. Wearing masks I guess is one of them.
Shots on a roll
If you have an monitor running 1920x1200 then open your browser to max and view th slide show. Rather than cut these sequence of shots up I've left them how I've scanned them. When scanning 35mm I usually scan the whole strip to see what I've got and then go back and scan the ones I like at a higher resolution. The last part I never get round to doing. I just scan the strip and forget about it. I don't think any of these shots (maybe 1) have seen the light of day. I have a crap load of these. Figured this sequence was not a bad one in terms of quality vs number of shots taken.
Questions, comments and feedback are always welcome.
Masked reading
So the sharp eye will notice that the book is not covered nor is the regular shape of a Japanese novel. The guy reads English! It's the little thing's like this that make the train journey interesting (for the most part).
Tokyo stations at night - cont.
Taking a break for medium format I went back to shoot with the rangefinder for a while. These shots are a mix of 35mm and 50mm all shot at night in various locations but on the subway and the JR.
Station life
A wasted evening wasting film. C41 shot in Shinjuku station through a rangefinder and a 50mm lens. This could have been shot yesterday or 3 years ago. It's now all the same to me.
Tokyo streets and stations
Random collection of old shots from around Shinjuku and a few stations.
Rain crossing
One from the archives while I take time out to process a bunch of pics I took the other week.Shot in Shinjuku during the rainy season I guess. Provia 400x pushed to 1600 as always.
Reflection
He started it. I'm only following.
Looking to escape
Looking for a way to escape, he looks back only to discover the best possible route blocked.
Look no one in the eye
No eye contact, head down, no speaking with anyone. 8.3 million people in this town (source - probably more now) and my version of Tokyo seems like an endless stream of the same.
Makeup
See this kind of thing every day. Hard to photograph at this angle though.
Sinister
Sometimes you point your camera in a direction and just hope something will fall into the frame. You don't expect to feel like your about to get killed (in Tokyo anyway) in the process. This could have been one of these times :-)
Summer excitement
Daytime photography. Something I really don't do much of in Tokyo. Tokyo by day is ugly. Real ugly. Ugly enough to have to shoot in black and white. So, being a night shooter I've always got my camera loaded with 1600 asa (iso to you post film people). During the day this means f/16 and hope like hell the shutter speed is fast enough. The magic thing about f/16 is no focus! Which is why I can point the camera behind me, hope like hell and take the shot. I think the strap adds a level of genuineness to the picture :-)
Photo booth 2
Part of a series. From the archives.
Napoleon
Sometimes you find a gem in the crowd.
Drunk action
One of a series from the archives. Possibly more episodes to come
